Clay is the original creatrix, the last step in mineral decomposition, and the gateway to being human. Ancient and current cultures around the world credit Clay as the original material that was used to craft the human body. Some biologists support the ‘Clay Hypothesis’ which posits that life began on clay mineral crystals, and not on organic molecules. It is probable that we as humans would not be who we are today without Clay. Clay pottery enabled food and water storage, clay tablets allowed us expression and remembrance, and clay was and still is integral in so many home building systems.
This May 23 and 24, come join Sara and Josh from Clay Sand Soul in remembering our relationship to Clay by honoring Her through sculpture. In this two day workshop we will be learning how to sculpt with cob, a mix of clay, sand, and straw. Participants will be guided in sculpting a life-size Goddess sculpture, along with learning the basics of what cob is, how to mix it, and the many uses it has beyond sculpting. This workshop will be run in the spirit of connecting with this raw material, and allowing Her to express herself. Please bring your prayers and gifts to be embedded and imbued.
Our schedule is as follows; please be prompt, thanks!
First day, opening circle: 9am
Morning session: 9am-1pm
Lunch: 1-2:30pm
Afternoon session: 2:30-5:30pm
Last day, closing circle: 5:30pm
Space will be limited to ten students per session, so be sure to confirm your attendance with Savannah. Although we prefer attendance of both days for continuity, folks are welcome to come just for one full day or half-day sessions. As stated earlier, please be prompt for start time, for instruction and continuity sake. Kids are very welcome, as long as they are accompanied by an adult. This workshop is for all bodies! Please let Savannah know if you have any accessibility concerns and we will accommodate them. We will be working with clay, sand, and straw, so be prepared to be dirty, use shovels and wheelbarrows, be on the ground, and be outside. Please bring a pair of medium duty garden gloves.
Camping is available, specify on the form if you will be staying on the land or commutting.
Please also specify what days/ times you will be joining. Thanks!
